[Sic] Possum expresses how things are exactly what the are suppossed to be. No matter how base, our personal constructs will not wish it away.

This is what I make, this is what I do.

I executed Substance at a show called The Way In, back in early 2002, which was held in and around a small Tallahassee bungalow. I set the piece up in the back yard the day of the show. It consisted of eleven poles, three pieces of cloth, two bladders of blood, two bladders of milk, sand and string.
Substance grew physically from my Structure work, injected with the subject matter from my paintings and sketches. In form, it is three canvases parallel to the ground. Three planes. Individual bladders at the top slowly drain either blood or milk. The liquid runs towards the center, mixes, saturates the cloth, then drips to the next plane, again puddles, saturates and drips to the next plane. The milk and blood are thoroughly mixed in the bottom "womb" level, where the substance drips finally into the ground.
