I grew up living in state housing on the grounds of the Florida State Hospital mental institution where both my parents worked. The small north Florida town which was home to FSH, Chattahoochee, was made infamous in the film Chattahoochee starring Dennis Hopper and Gary Oldman. The movie's tag line was: "At the edge of insanity lies hope". You get the gist.
With seventeen years of my childhood tied to a intimate community of mentally insane patients, the construct of ‘normal’ would always be disputed in my mind. more>>>

During the late 1980's MTV ran a spot stating "we are the video generation, we need the visual stimulation." And like the twitch-eyed, ADD, latch-key slackers we were, visual input had became our legal cocaine. Growing up through America's 1970's and 1980's slackers were locked in, tuned in, and turned on our TV's. We were given Atari 2600's, Saturday Morning Cartoons, MTV, and Nickelodeon, along with all the visual goodies of cable and satellite.
Like good experimental monkeys, the cancer grew in us. Our socialization.
